The Week in Garden Hills
Do you get strangely excited about keeping your neighbors informed and supporting our local businesses? The Week in Garden Hills may be your thing!
Background
The Week in Garden Hills was launched in September 2025 as a companion to the venerable Garden Hills Town Crier, which is published quarterly and includes longer-form content such as neighbor features and GHCA committee reports. The Week is published weekly (duh) and includes announcements, a sponsor feature, and upcoming events. We are looking to build a small team of writers/ editors/ publishers to produce the newsletter without creating too much of a burden for any one volunteer.
Responsibilities
- Write/edit issues of The Week (frequency depends on number of volunteers)
- Work directly with GHCA sponsors to finalize sponsor feature content
- Manage/solicit announcements and events from other parties as necessary
- Communicate with other GHCA volunteers as necessary via SLACK
- It may make sense for one volunteer to coordinate several others
Qualifications
- Strong people and organizational skills
- Ability to create solid, “newsy” content (write/edit)
- Exposure to email marketing tools like Mailchimp is a plus but not required so long as you are comfortable with technology and willing to learn

Social Media Coordinator
Are you passionate about social? Do you instinctively identify, capture, and post relevant + engaging content on platforms including Insta? Go ahead and slide on into our DMs (jk no socials… yet).
Background
Best we can tell, the GHCA hasn’t had a robust social presence since MySpace. OK, maybe a slight exaggeration. Slight. What’s that, never heard of MySpace? You’re probably perfect for this. Let’s talk.
Responsibilities
- Identify, capture, and post engaging content relevant to the Garden Hills community
- Launch and grow GHCA presence on Instagram and potentially other platforms
- Collaborate with other volunteers and committees to further GHCA goals
- Help to develop guidelines for the use of social media and other channels, e.g., tone of voice
Qualifications
- Strong people and organizational skills
- Deep experience with Instagram and other prominent platforms such as X, TikTok, etc.
- Thorough understanding of latest social media marketing principles and experience with relevant tools for organizations, e.g., Meta for Business, prominent content scheduling platforms, etc.

Block Captains
Act as the primary liaison between residents in defined areas of Garden Hills and the GHCA
Block Captain / Deputy
Do you know everyone on your street, including the new neighbor that just moved in? Do you tend to stay “in the know” for all things Garden Hills? Sign up to be a Block Captain or Deputy Block Captain.
Background
The GHCA is bringing back the concept of “Block Captains,” which are volunteers who serve as the main conduit between the organization and neighbors within their particular zone of Garden Hills (not necessarily a strict block). We have decided to go down this path despite being fully aware of the challenges, given the importance to the neighborhood. We are seeking a lead and assistant/deputy Block Captain for each zone.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the main conduit of information between your zone and the GHCA (2-way)
- Monitor new home sales / leases and reach out to new neighbors to welcome them, gather contact information, and share information about the GHCA
- Stay up to date on happenings within your zone as well as across Garden Hills more broadly
- Plan (or arrange to be planned) an annual block party, subsidized by the GHCA
Qualifications
- Willing and able to build relationships will all (or nearly all) neighbors within your zone
- Comfortable with technology to allow for collecting contact information electronically, etc.
Communications
Manage all GHCA communications including email, text, and the GardenHills.org websites
Photographer
Are you a professional (or serious hobbyist) photographer who has reasonable availablity and wants to help Garden Hills put its best foot forward? Are you offended that we use the same few banner images on every page within GardenHills.org? We would love your help.
Background
We are looking for 2-3 professional-level photographers to document neighborhood events throughout the year and shoot additional content for gardenhills.org, email marketing campaigns, and GHCA social media accounts as needed. We envision having several volunteers share this role at any given time to increase coverage without making the commitment too burdensome. The GHCA is willing to promote volunteers’ photography businesses assuming a reasonable minimum commitment.
Responsibilities
- Shoot Garden Hills events and other content, e.g., for GardenHills.org
- Light touch post-production (image selection, minor corrections, etc.)
- Provide high-resolution images to GHCA without restrictions on use
Qualifications
- Professional or serious hobbyist photographer
- Access to and experience with professional-level equipment and software
- Reasonable level of flexibility to shoot when needed, with appropriate notice

Background
The GHCA Infrastructure Committee was recently created to work on a range of issues around parking, traffic/pedestrian safety, sidewalk and road quality, and related issues such as street lights. We continue to build out the committee and we are seeking lead volunteers to coordinate parking and other key topics across the neighborhood (e.g., work with Block Captains).
Responsibilities
- Communicate with Block Captains, neighbors, and institutions to understand parking-related issues
- Become well-versed in the rules and processes around parking in the City of Atlanta
- Coordinate parking-related efforts across stakeholders within Garden Hills
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and people skills to manage various stakeholders
- Long-term orientation (these issues are rarely solved in a hurry)
